In order to control the continuous rise in the price of eggs, eggs should be imported from India or Pakistan, otherwise the prices of bakery products other than bread will have to be increased, said N. K. Mr. Jayawardena said.

Mr. Jayawardena said that there is no production to meet the demand for eggs in the country and said that if eggs are imported from India or Pakistan, an egg can be sold at a price between 30 and 32 rupees.

Mr. Jayawardena further said that the price of an egg has so far risen to 70 rupees and measures should be taken as soon as possible to control this black market price.
