According to a group of refugees who have arrived in this country, a large vessel carrying 209 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, who were traveling to Indonesia, has sunk in an accident in the deep sea.

A group of Rohingya refugees who were rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy in an accident in the deep sea have informed the Navy about the incident.

In 2017, with the crisis in Myanmar, a group of Rohingya refugees had come to a refugee camp in Bangladesh.

The group of them who stayed there for many years had gone to Diyamba on the 30th of October last through a group of human traffickers in Bangladesh to go to Indonesia.

The refugees said that there were 109 women and children in one vessel and 209 women and children in the other vessel.

They say that the vessel carrying 209 people was caught in a huge storm in the deep sea around November 15 while leading the other vessel.

There, the vessel carrying 209 people sank and disappeared.

The other vessel also suffered a technical fault there.

Later, the Bangladeshi skipper who was on that vessel said that he was going to India to bring spare parts and then brought a small boat to their place and fled.

Accordingly, the vessel carrying these refugees was floating in the sea for almost a month and was rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy on the 17th in the northern sea of Sri Lanka.

There they have handed over the group to the Kankasanthuraya Police.
