Due to the cyclone that affected the country in recent days, vegetable cultivation in areas like Nuwara Eliya, Welimada and Kappetipola has been severely damaged and as a result, the amount of vegetables received daily by the economic centers has been greatly reduced.

Due to that, the prices of vegetables have increased again these days, traders say.

Kappetipola Economic Center received less than fifty thousand kilograms of vegetables yesterday (02).

Generally, the vegetable harvest is less in December and January, but after the damage caused to the vegetable crops by the cyclone, the farmers say that they will get a successful vegetable harvest again around February.

Yesterday (02nd) the wholesale price of several types of vegetables per kilogram was as follows. Beans Rs 550-600, Beetroot Rs 280-300, Eggplant Rs 280-300, Fish Chilli Rs 550-650, Green Chillies Rs 220-250, Nokol Rs 240-250, Leeks Rs 270-290 and Mackerel Rs 300.
